What is Enclomiphene?

Enclomiphene (also known as enclomiphene citrate or trans-clomiphene) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and the purified trans-isomer of clomiphene citrate (commonly known as Clomid). Clomiphene citrate is a mixture of two isomers: approximately 62% enclomiphene (the active, estrogen-antagonistic component) and 38% zuclomiphene (the estrogen-agonistic component with a longer half-life).

Enclomiphene works by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This reduces the negative feedback that estrogen normally exerts on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to increased release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The result is natural stimulation of the testes to produce more testosterone and maintain sperm production.
