Description
Isotretinoin helps reduce pimples (acne) and bumps. It’s used for severe acne and severe rosacea.

Initial worsening: Acne can get worse in the first weeks; this is normal.

Effectiveness: You usually notice if it works after a few weeks.

Duration:

Acne treatment usually lasts 4 to 6 months. If a second treatment is needed, wait 2 months before starting again.

Rosacea treatment usually lasts 3 to 4 months.

How to take it:

Take isotretinoin during or right after meals to improve absorption.
Common side effects:

Dry lips, eyes, and nose

Eye inflammation and sore throat

Increased sensitivity to sun (use sunscreen with high SPF or avoid sun exposure)

Not to be used during pregnancy — isotretinoin is very harmful to the baby. Pregnancy tests will be done before and during treatment, and you must use two forms of contraception simultaneously (e.g., the pill and condoms) from one month before to one month after treatment.

Do not breastfeed during treatment as the medication might pass into breast milk and harm the baby.
