Description
Tamoxifen – Nolvadex
Nolvadex is a non-steroidal drug known for its powerful anti-estrogen effects. By binding to estrogen receptors, it effectively blocks the influence of estrogen. This medication is mainly prescribed for the treatment of specific types of breast cancer in both women and men. Additionally, it serves as a preventive measure against breast cancer in women with a history of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) who are at increased risk. Research is ongoing regarding its effectiveness for other types of breast cancer. It is also known as tamoxifen or tamoxifencitrate.
Indications
Nolvadex is indicated for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer in both sexes. It is particularly beneficial for premenopausal women. Instead of surgical methods such as oophorectomy or radiation, Nolvadex is often preferred. Patients with estrogen receptor-positive tumors benefit greatly from this therapy, and it is also recommended as adjuvant treatment after surgery.
Dosage
Nolvadex is available in 10 mg and 20 mg tablets, and as a 10 mg solution. The standard recommended dose is 20 mg per day, taken orally and well absorbed, with flexibility regarding food intake. For breast cancer patients, the dosage typically ranges from 20 mg to 40 mg daily, divided into 1-3 doses if above 20 mg. Many bodybuilders start with 20 mg per day, some go up to 30 mg per day. Long-term therapy beyond 5 years is generally discouraged.
Bodybuilders
Although Nolvadex has no direct anabolic or androgenic properties, it significantly blocks estrogen receptors. By blocking these receptors in the hypothalamus, it leads to increased production of gonadotropins (LH and FSH), which stimulate testosterone synthesis. This testosterone boost results in anabolic and androgenic effects associated with Nolvadex.
Bodybuilders usually use Nolvadex after anabolic steroid cycles to counter testosterone suppression. While some prefer Arimidex, others choose Nolvadex for similar effects, especially in preventing gynecomastia and water retention. Weight gain with Nolvadex alone is minimal, but it is favored for maintaining weight gained from other steroids during washout phases and aiding in testosterone recovery.

Overdose
Although rare, Nolvadex overdose has not been widely reported. Symptoms may manifest 4-6 days after excessive intake and include tremors, unsteady walking, dizziness, or heart rhythm disturbances. Persistent toxicity is unlikely, and treatment is primarily supportive.
